It started at our kitchen table. A little wood, a few paintbrushes, and a wish to spend more time making things together.
Every night, as the bedroom lights dim, my child’s imagination wakes up.
One week, his world is filled with hot air balloons drifting through the clouds. The next, he has discovered a whole new universe. As a parent, I love watching those interests change. But I kept wondering: why should the lamp on his wall stay the same?
I wanted to make something that could follow his imagination. Something that was more than a light at bedtime — something we could create together.
It began with a wish to slow down.
By day, I work as an R&D engineer in advanced technology. Precision, safety and practical design are part of how I think. At home, though, I found myself wanting something simpler.
In a world full of screens, I wanted us to get back to making things with our hands. To sit at the kitchen table, open the paints and make a little mess. No distractions. Just time together.
That is where Mollund began.
When my eldest painted his first wooden lamp, it became something only he could have made. And when we put it on the wall and switched it on for the first time, the pride in his eyes said everything.
“Who’s in the balloon?
Where are they going?”
Then the stories began.
That lamp soon became part of our evening ritual. After a busy day, it gave us a quiet moment to unwind and connect.
He would lie there, relaxed, telling me about the people in the balloon, where they were travelling and the adventures waiting for them. The light was the same. The story was different every night.
Bedtime stories had taken on a whole new dimension.
A new adventure. The same little light.
I brought my engineering background to the design, too. I wanted Mollund to be as practical as it was creative.
You start with one light base, then add a wooden back plate and a front plate. Both plates can be changed as your child grows or discovers a new interest. Paint a new design together, slide it into place, and let the next story begin.
And a new favourite doesn’t mean saying goodbye to the old one. Keep the front panels you’ve already bought or painted. When your child asks for that familiar balloon again, you can simply put it back.
Made for real family life.
As a parent, I know the little details matter. I wanted a gentle glow for quiet evenings, without harsh glare or trailing cords.
Mollund runs on batteries, so you can choose a spot without needing a nearby socket. It can be mounted with a screw, nail or suitable adhesive strip, depending on your wall. A simple press on the front plate turns the light on or off.
And with a spare light module ready to use, you can swap it in whenever you need to.
Something to keep.
For me, Mollund is about thoughtful design that feels accessible. But above all, it is about the moments it makes room for: paint on the table, a proud little face, one more story before sleep.
Children grow. Their interests change. But the memories you paint together can stay with you.
